5 Tips for Deploying AI Agents to Production

Most TypeScript AI agent tutorials end at localhost. But the moment real users hit your agent, you need streaming, auth, data isolation, cost controls, and observability — or things break fast. I built this on AWS with the Strands Agents SDK, but the patterns apply anywhere. If you're building AI agents with TypeScript for production, this video covers the 5 best practices I add to every agent I deploy: 1. Stream tool call events so your UI stays responsive during 10-second tool calls 2. Separate auth layers: API Gateway + Cognito for OAuth, WAF for rate limiting, and a Lambda bridge so the agent stays on IAM auth. Users can't bypass the gateway, even if they find the endpoint. 3. Contracted database access: type-safe query shapes with tenant isolation (no raw SQL) 4. AI agent Guardrails & cost budgets: lifecycle hooks to block destructive calls, cap tool loops, enforce timeouts, and model routing sends simple queries to Amazon Nova Micro to cut LLM costs. 5. Agent Observability: built-in metrics (cycle count, token usage, tool stats) + OpenTelemetry distributed tracing Tech stack: Strands Agents SDK, TypeScript, AWS AgentCore Runtime, API Gateway, Lambda, Cognito, WAF, DynamoDB, OpenTelemetry AWS blogpost: https://go.aws/4fU5XvS Source code Github: https://go.aws/4o4neVh Strands Agents TypeScript SDK: https://go.aws/4o5zGUT Strands TypeScript Quickstart: https://go.aws/4dH20tb Strands Lifecycle Hooks: https://go.aws/4o2l7kY Strands Observability (Traces): https://go.aws/3PE5P9o Amazon Bedrock AgentCore: https://go.aws/4o0DGGf Amazon Bedrock Pricing: https://go.aws/3PEayYF Amazon API Gateway: https://go.aws/4o2nSCR AWS WAF: https://go.aws/4dGLKZc Amazon Bedrock Guardrails: https://go.aws/4dRD8PD AgentCore Memory: https://go.aws/4dJSBRI OpenTelemetry: https://go.aws/3Rypl7Q Follow AWS Developers!
