As a Professor of Community Medicine, I see one small household creature being completely misunderstood every single day — the humble எறும்பு (ant). Most families reach straight for the "எறும்பு chalk" / Lakshman Rekha to deal with it. But here's what shocked me: that chalk is not chalk at all — it's a pesticide (deltamethrin/cypermethrin), and because it looks exactly like school chalk, it is banned in the US, Canada, Australia and Europe over child-poisoning risk.
