So today, we are talking about how to keep pets calm during fireworks! Since so many of you have left amazing messages over the years about how our advice has helped you, we wanted to share 10 tips and suggestions to ensure you have a safe, wonderful, and happy holiday. Even though we are missing our sweet senior Memphis so much right now, Kira and Eleanor are right here ready to help, even if Eleanor is mostly focused on being crazy and digging massive holes in the yard! We have some great tips that you can still get done before the the fireworks really start! Preparing your dogs for fireworks is something so many people need to be doing. Not all dogs are scared of fireworks, but for dogs that are scared of fireworks, hopefully some of these tip can help make your evenings over the 4th of July and other holidays a bit more calm! Fourth of July is the day they do most fireworks here in the states. At the end of the day, our job is to protect our dogs and make sure they feel safe. Life is short, make memories with your dogs! (above links are all affialte links) 10 FIREWORKS SAFETY TIPS FOR DOGS Tip 10: Talk to your vet immediately about potential calming medications if your dog gets severely freaked out, shakes, or panics. Tip 9: Switch up your schedule by walking or running your dogs early in the day to tire them out as much as possible before nightfall. Tip 8: Create a dark, comfy den or blanket fort in a quiet, windowless room, bathroom, or basement. Tip 7: Provide stimulating puzzle toys, bully stick holders, woofsicles, or frozen Kong treats to drain their mental energy. Tip 6: Turn on the TV or classical music a little louder than normal to drown out the loud firework booms. Tip 5: Consider trying dog gear like noise-canceling headphones, Happy Hoodies, or ThunderShirts/anxiety vests. Tip 4: Use calming treats, sprays, adaptil pheromones, or calming CBD oils to help soothe their anxiety. Tip 3: Secure your house by locking doors and windows, and make sure your yard fence is secure, and their tags and microchips are fully updated. Tip 2: Take them out to potty early in the evening before the fireworks start, or set up an indoor potty grass area. Tip 1: Stay calm and be chill, because dogs feed off our energy—if you panic, they will panic. Bonus Tip: Try driving around with the car radio on, or start a long-term desensitization training plan with low firework sounds and high praise all year long.
