Ekuba (affectionately known as Kubie) is a 20-year-old male Western Lowland gorilla living in the bachelor troop at the San Diego Zoo. Known for being handsome and observant, he has stepped into a leadership role for his younger brother Denny. Ekuba was born on March 5, 2006, at the San Diego Zoo. His father is Memba and his mother is Jessica. As the youngest of five sons born to his mother Jessica and father Memba, Ekuba was doted on by his older brothers; he grew up constantly observing them and following their lead. Nine days after Ekuba's birth, on March 14, his half-brother, Bouendje, was born. Bouendje’s mother is N’djole, the daughter of Winston, who came from a Safari Park. Bouendje was likely as close as a twin to its companion, but around the age of four—on March 2, 2010—he moved to the Oklahoma City Zoo along with its mother, N’djole. Ekuba joined his brothers' Bachelor group with his father when he was seven years old. His father, Memba, was 43 years old at the time and retired from being a family silverback to join the Bachelor group with his son, Ekuba. When his father, Memba, passed away in 2015 at the age of 45, Ekba, then nine years old, was said to be the most saddened of his siblings. Afterward, his older brother, Maka, who had a gentle personality, always looked out for his younger brother, Ekuba. His older brother, Mandazzi, who had been with him for many years, moved to another zoo, and Maka passed away last year. He currently lives with his half-brother, Denny. That afternoon, after lunch, the two of them went on patrol. Denny walked ahead, and Ekuba followed closely behind, patrolling together for several hours. Of course, Ekuba is the leader, but perhaps because he has a youngest-child personality, he was so cute, like a younger brother following Denny around! In my opinion, Ekuba resembles his father the most. Almost all of Jessica's sons are cute and resemble their mother, Jessica, more. Her older brother, Mandazzi, recently became a father for the first time. Neither Mike nor Tatu have children yet, so this is Jessica's first grandchild. Gorillas typically do not make eye contact with humans, but Ekuba often meets my gaze and is very friendly. He used to sleep in the same bedroom as his older brother, Mandazzi, until Mandazzi moved away; I imagine he feels lonely now that both of his older brothers are suddenly gone. He has stepped up as a leader watching over his younger brother, and I look forward to supporting him in the future. エクバ（愛称：クービー）は、サンディエゴ動物園のオスだけの群れ（バチェラー・グループ）で暮らす20歳のニシローランドゴリラです。 ハンサムで周囲をよく観察する性格で知られる彼は、弟のデニーを導くリーダー的な役割を担うようになりました。 エクバは　2006年３月５日にサンディエゴ動物園で生まれました。 父親はメンバ　母親はジェシカです。 彼はジェシカとメンバの5人の息子の中で最年少なので　兄たちからは末っ子として可愛がられ、エクバは常に兄たちを観察して　兄たちの背中を見て育ちました。 エクバが生まれた９日後の３月１４日に異母兄弟のブエンジェが生まれています。ブエンジェの母親はインジョーレで　彼女はサンディエゴサファリパークから来たウィンストンの娘です。 おそらくブエンジェとは双子のように仲良しだったと思いますが、ブエンジェがおおよそ4歳の頃、2010年３月２日に母親のインジョーレと一緒にオクラホマシティ動物園へお引越しとなりました。 エクバが7歳の時に　父親と一緒に兄たちのバチェラーグループにジョインしました。 父親のメンバは当時43歳でしたが　ファミリーシルバーバックをリタイアして　息子のエクバと一緒にバチェラーグループにジョインする事になりました。　 2015年父親のメンバが45歳で亡くなった際　当時エクバは9歳でしたが　兄弟の中で1番悲しんでいたと聞きます。 その後は優しい性格だった兄のマカがいつも弟エクバを気にかけていたと聞きます。 長年いっしょだった兄のマンダチは他の動物園へ移動して　去年兄のマカが亡くなり　現在は異母兄弟のデニーと一緒に暮らしています。 この日の午後は、食事の後二人でパトロールをしていましたが、　デニーが先に歩き、デニーの後ろをエクバがくっついて数時間一緒にパトロールしていました。 もちろんエクバがリーダーですが、末っ子気質なのか、まるでデニーが兄で　その後ろにくっついて歩く弟のように　可愛いエクバでした！ 私の意見ではエクバが1番父親のメンバの顔に似ていると思います。 ジェシカの息子たちはほとんどみんなどちらかというと母親のジェシカに似て可愛い顔をしてます。 兄のマンダチは最近初めてパパになりました。 マイクもタテゥもまだ子供がいませんので　ジェシカにとって初めての孫となります。 ゴリラは通常視線を人間と合わせませんが　エクバはよく私と視線を合わせてくれて　とてもフレンドリーです。 兄のマンダチとはマンダチが移動するまで　ベッドルームで一緒に寝ていたそうで 兄たち二人が突然いなくなり、寂しいと思います。 弟を見守るリーダーとなりましたが　今後も応援したいと思います。
