Summer Residents & Migrants: 8 Species
Woodland Wildlife (Mammals): 8 Species
Raptors & Birds of Prey: 4 Species

Year-Round Residents
These birds are steady fixtures, though their behaviors may shift with the seasons.
Backyard Favorites: Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee, Mourning Dove, American Crow, House Finch, House Sparrow.
The "Vocalists": * Northern Mockingbird: Sings all year (and all night).
Carolina Wren: Loud "Teakettle!" song.
Brown Thrasher: Georgia's State Bird!
Woodpeckers: Red-Bellied, Downy, Hairy, Red-Headed, and the Northern Flicker (our only ground-feeder).
Nuthatches: White-Breasted and Brown-Headed (sounds like a squeaky toy).
Winter Specialists & "Snowbirds"
Birds that arrive or become more prominent when the temperature drops.
Dark-Eyed Junco: The classic "Snowbird."
Yellow-Rumped Warbler: Known as the "Butter-butt."
White-Throated Sparrow: Sings "Old Sam Peabody."
Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker: Strictly a winter visitor in the South.
Hermit Thrush & Golden-Crowned Kinglet: Hardier winter guests.
Irruptive Guests (Rare): Pine Siskin, Purple Finch.
Nomadic & Social Flocks
These birds move in large groups, often appearing and disappearing quickly.
American Robin: Roam in nomadic flocks during winter.
Cedar Waxwing: Seek out berry bushes in winter groups.
American Goldfinch: Turns a drab olive-brown in winter.
Blackbirds: Red-Winged Blackbird, Common Grackle, Brown-Headed Cowbird.
Raptors (Birds of Prey)
Red-Shouldered Hawk: Loud; often perches on wires.
Cooper’s Hawk: Agile hunters; often ambush feeders.
Sharp-Shinned Hawk: Smaller cousin to the Cooper's.
Barred Owl: "Who cooks for you?" call.
Migrants & High-Altitude Breeders
Ruby-Throated Hummingbird: Only present April–Sept.
Wood Thrush: Famous for its flute-like song.
Rose-Breasted Grosbeak: Passes through or stays in high mountains.
Eastern Phoebe: Often listed as a hardy migrant.
