Local non-profit saves Seattle's Harbor Island Studios from hitting the cutting room floor

After months of uncertainty and behind-the-scenes work, the largest studio for film and video production in western Washington has been given the green light once more. CREATE48 Media Network, a Washington-based nonprofit, announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with King County to support continued operations at Harbor Island Studios at least for the next year, the local production facility spanning over 100,000 square feet with two soundstages, large production areas, production offices, greenscreens, and more. Since 2021, the studio has been the host to 202 productions, whether that be local independent productions or larger studio productions from the likes of Paramount, HBO, and Amazon. It notably hosted a season of the reality show “Love is Blind” in 2023. “Harbor Island Studios is more than a building,” said Kris Flink, director of operations for CREATE48 Media Network. “It is a place where emerging filmmakers, working professionals, educators, and community partners can connect through real production experience." "Keeping the studios active gives us the chance to keep building those bridges between first opportunities and long-term creative careers," Flink added. In November, the King County Council nearly voted to remove funding from the studios. Local filmmakers did not let that happen.
