Hi everyone! Welcome on board a brand new ride. This time I finally got the opportunity to record the full 6600 series Sprinter recorded from Dordrecht to Arnhem. Lots to see and explain. Let's go! 0:00 Dordrecht - Intro + Departure We start our ride with 7 carriages of FLIRT. Our NS race monster (when not slippery). You can now see the direction of travel in the train introduction graphics as well. :D 2:26 Main Signal Announcement Explained Main signals out of station area are announced with small reflector signs. Do you spot them before almost every light signal? These are most important when driving towards a red signal in dense fog for example. 2:55 Dordrecht Zuid - Trains Length Signs Explained Those blue signs at stations? Meant for the trains length. Per 27 meters we go up one number. Our train has a total length of about 143 meters. So we must halt at number 6. Or higher if there's no 6 available. 7:13 Exceptional Critical Point Explained When not driving on a railway yard or at a station drivers get informed of closing in on a critical point in the infrastructure with these signs. Mostly switches or bridges that can open for example. Extra important for when you encounter a red light here. 8:28 Final Permissive Main Signal + Moerdijkbrug That P means the signal works fully automatic and it separates long stretched tracks in sections. 10:27 Lage Zwaluwe - Station Announcement The long stretched S is located on braking distance from the platform. You can almost always see them on sections with higher speeds allowed than 80km/h. 13:27 Eurostar at 300km/h! Zoooffff! There goes the Eurostar to Paris! 16:10 Zevenbergschenhoek Connection Connection from/to the HSL. 16:42 Nieuwe Veerbrug Switches 17:40 Breda Prinsenbeek 22:13 Breda Connection + Breda 30:00 Level Crossing Activation Explained Level crossings get activated when passing that round sign. From that moment on the lights start working and the gates slowly close. Only seconds later the train passes by when traveling on full speed. Always wait for the red light! Another train might come! 33:07 Gilze-Rijen 37:17 Tilburg Reeshof 41:07 Tilburg Universiteit 44:15 Tilburg On departure from Tilburg we depart with a signal that shows a flashing 8. In case we would've run 120km/h at this point we must slow down to 80km/h. But we do not need to reach that speed before the next one. The signal after that shows a steady 8. This means we must've reached the speed before the next main light signal. 48:37 Tilburg Connection And here you see why. :) 49:59 Tilburg Industrie 57:11 Vught Connection Lots of work is being done in the upcoming years for the build of a brand new station Vught. 1:01:16 's-Hertogenbosch 1:06:11 Spoorbrug over de Dieze 1:07:21 's-Hertogenbosch Oost 1:10:32 Rosmalen - Manual Override Level Crossing Possible That special sign on the light signal means the driver can manually activate the level crossing in case it does not work automatically. This would mean there's a system failure and we always do this with permission of the train dispatcher if needed. 1:17:04 Oss West - Stop and Go Explained With automatic light signals and level crossing a special 'stop and go' in set in the train schedule. This way the level crossing is closed a lot shorter than activating it about a km back. 1:20:19 Oss 1:24:03 Oss Raccordement Elzenburg 1:26:49 Ravenstein - Exceptional Critical Point + Final Permissive Main Signal Look closely. The term 'braking distance' is very important for these critical point signals. This means it's still possible there's another P-signal in between. Just like in this case. 1:29:47 Edithbrug 1:31:03 Maasbrug Ravenstein Oostzijde 1:32:26 Wijchen 1:36:52 Nijmegen Dukenburg 1:39:48 Nijmegen Goffert 1:43:03 Nijmegen - Dividing Train Sets! Enjoy the graphics I show for dividing the train sets. Let me know what you think of it! 1:49:47 Nijmegen - Departure Shorter Train Our train is shorter now. At the next stop I'll explain our new stop location at the platforms. 1:51:57 Nijmegen Lent 1:54:31 Resse + Elst Connection 1:56:05 Elst 1:59:27 De Notenlaan Brug Wonderful peace of infrastructure for walking and biking! :D 1:59:53 Arnhem Zuid 2:03:19 Spoorbrug Oosterbeek Always a great view from here! 2:03:45 Arnhem Approach 2:05:05 Arnhem West Connection 2:05:57 Arnhem Berg 2:06:13 Arnhem Centraal We reach our final stop for the ride! Many stops. Many sprints on our FLIRT Race Monster! :D Let me know what you think of the video!
