Teaching HOW-TO Competition Trail Truck Crawl - Traxxas TRX4's | RC ADVENTURES

My son Maurice is 12 years old, and with RC TOPIA opening up for another trail day this Sunday, he admitted he was feeling a little nervous about competing with experienced rock crawlers. That's something every one of us has gone through. Whether you're new to RC crawling or you've been driving for years, competition can feel intimidating until you understand the rules and realize it's all about having fun. So today, we headed out to the rocks together. In this episode, I walk everyone through a simple rock crawling score sheet, explaining how gates, penalties, reverses, rollovers, and progress are scored so you can make your own course at home with friends. If you've ever wanted to try friendly RC competitions but didn't know where to start, this should help take some of the mystery out of it. Of course, we couldn't leave the trucks sitting still. Maurice brings out his heavily upgraded Traxxas TRX-4, which he's been wrenching on himself. He's recently rebuilt the entire transmission, installed helical differential gears, and upgraded to a Hobbywing Fusion Pro 2400KV brushless motor and ESC. Watching him learn not only how to drive, but also how to build and repair his own truck has been incredibly rewarding. I also take out my Traxxas TRX-4 High Trail Ford F-150 to demonstrate a few lines and show him how I approach obstacles. But don't expect a serious competition—today was all about laughs, learning, and building confidence before our friends arrive at RC TOPIA. At the end of the day, between him and I - RC crawling isn't really about winning. It's about solving problems, spending time outdoors, challenging yourself, and sharing the hobby with family and good people. Welcome back to RC TOPIA.
