Veterinarian talks about caring for K-9 shot in Rittman

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says K-9 Vick, the police dog who was injured in the Sunday night shooting that killed a mother and daughter as well as a Rittman police sergeant, was released from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. According to Capt. Paul Brumme, Vic's handler reported the K-9 was released from Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Copley and continue his recovery at home. Brumme said K-9 Vick was struck by bullet fragments fired by suspected shooter Brandon Fazekas, with fragments hitting his back, near his spine, and chest. "We were advised nothing vital was struck, however there are still issues to monitor as a result," Brumme said via email. "As far as returning for Duty, it is too early for a definitive answer on that, however we do hope that one day [Vick] can return and be the asset he has proven to be for this Office and the Citizens he serves."
