WORKSHOP WEDNESDAY: What DESTROYED Our KV-1S Barrel? How will Beau repair this?!

This week on Workshop Wednesday, Beau continues work on the KV-1S turret. First up is the barrel, peeled apart like a banana. What caused this kind of catastrophic failure? Beau briefs us on the damage and gets to work repairing what most people would write off as beyond saving. Then he moves onto fabricating an armoured periscope cover from scratch, fitting hinges, and restoring the shell case ejection port. It's a packed episode of precision fabrication work on components that simply don't exist anywhere else in the world. The KV-1S was a Soviet heavy tank produced from 1942 at the Chelyabinsk factory under extreme wartime pressure. Our example is undergoing one of the most ambitious restorations we've ever attempted. This episode wraps up the turret work, marking a major milestone in the project.
