Why does the Tesla Powerwall controversy around remote shutdowns seem to exist overseas — but not in Australia? In this video, I break down why Australians are largely protected from the Powerwall “bricking” issue that’s sparked backlash in other countries. It’s not because the hardware is different, and it’s not because Tesla behaves differently out of kindness. It comes down to Australia’s unusually strong consumer protection laws. We’ll look at what Australian Consumer Law actually requires, why remotely disabling a home battery would be legally risky here, and how this quietly changes the balance of power between tech companies and consumers. This also raises a much bigger question about who really controls smart energy products once they’re installed on your wall. A lot of people assume software-controlled hardware is just something we have to accept. Australia is one of the few places where that assumption doesn’t always hold up. As always, I’m keen to hear what you think. Should companies ever be allowed to remotely disable hardware you’ve paid for? And do you think other countries should follow Australia’s approach? ☕ Support the Channel: https://www.patreon.com/c/benalexxander https://buymeacoffee.com/benalexxander 📲 Follow ben Alexxander: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/benalexxander Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/benalexxander YouTube: www.youtube.com/@benalexxander ⚖️ Copyright Disclaimer Some footage may have been used without prior permission from the owner.
