Police: Man stabbed his father 20 times during soccer game in city park

A 24-year-old man is accused of stabbing his father to death in broad daylight at a Massachusetts park. Witnesses told police in Wellesley that the suspect was playing soccer with the victim when he suddenly attacked him with a knife and stabbed him at least 20 times, reports CBS Boston. Before he died, the victim, Jamey Bennett, reportedly told an officer it was his son, James Bennett III, who attacked him. Prosecutors said, after the stabbing, James Bennett ran back to his home, showered, changed and put the knife and his clothes in a bag. He also allegedly took a photo of himself covered in blood before turning himself in to the police. Investigators reportedly found DNA under the suspect's fingernails that was presumptive for blood. James Bennett was arraigned Friday, pleading not guilty to a first-degree murder charge. His attorney told the judge his client has a significant history of mental health issues and shared a message from the Bennett family with reporters: "They are dealing with the same tragedy that any family going through this pattern would go through. They're here to show their support and love for their son, cousin and nephew, James, who's just charged. They're also terribly upset at the fact that the death of James, the father," the attorney said.
