And he was willing to face a firing squad rather than compromise it. That kind of conviction was the Islam people were joining. Not a religion of private belief kept safely out of sight. A movement with members whose lives were genuinely threatened. And when Imam Zaid joined, he accepted that if that came with the package, he was in. We inherited a faith that people paid enormous prices to carry.
