Ramadan, the holy month for all Muslims, has begun in Egypt. During this time, believers abstain from food and drink from dawn to dusk. This year, it will last from March 20th to 22nd. Hurghada, although a tourist destination, still maintains its traditions. This is especially evident outside the tourist areas, where locals decorate their streets and entryways, the balconies of their homes, and shop windows (as best they can 😀). Daily routines are changing; many people start their mornings at lunchtime, which means that stores, pharmacies, and shopping malls may open later than usual. During the day, the streets are sparsely populated, but as evening approaches, the scene changes. The closer it gets to iftar—the first meal after sunset—the busier it becomes. Since this month is characterized by piety, helping those in need, and charitable giving, many restaurants and cafes set up tables with treats right on the streets. They distribute free traditional food and drinks, such as hibiscus tea or apricot juice, and offer dates and fruit to passersby. People take to the streets and gratefully accept the food. It becomes crowded, bustling, and noisy, with traffic jams forming. Some spend this time at home, enjoying dinner with their families. Many establishments close for a couple of hours during this period, but then remain open until late. Because local life begins after sunset. It's common to see lines of shoppers at the supermarket checkout at 2 a.m. 😀 For tourists, nothing fundamentally changes; a vacation remains a vacation. So if you're worried about this and planning a vacation during this period, relax. You won't notice any changes at your hotel.
