Description
Robert Andre Ross, accused of killing his wife in Alliance and then fleeing to West Virginia before being captured, made his initial court appearance in Stark County on Monday.
Ross, who was extradited back to Ohio, had his bond set at $5 million by an Alliance Municipal Court judge. The case will go directly to a Stark County grand jury.
CASE BACKGROUND
According to Alliance Police Lt. Christopher McCord, officers responded around 7 a.m. on May 13 to a home in the 300 block of West Ely Street after two children inside the house called yelling for help. When officers arrived, they found Ashley Ross dead in a bedroom, McCord said.
Police secured the home and safely removed the children, who were released to family members already responding to the scene.
“We determined that it was of a suspicious nature and that it's a homicide. In our opinion, the latest is that we are searching for someone. We have a person of interest, and we're actively searching for that person right now," Alliance Police Chief Akenra X told 3News that morning.
Alliance police detectives later obtained a search warrant for the residence and collected evidence with assistance from investigators from the Stark County Coroner's Office.
Authorities identified Ashley Ross' husband, 50-year-old Robert Andre Ross, as the suspect in the case. Police said a murder warrant was issued for Ross, who believed to be carrying a firearm.
The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force joined Alliance police in the search for Ross, McCord said. Later that same day, police announced Ross had been taken into custody in the area of Morgantown, West Virginia.
According to McCord, the NOVFTF tracked Ross to West Virginia and coordinated with a local task force there. Investigators located the vehicle Ross was believed to be driving, conducted a traffic stop with assistance from local police and arrested him without incident.
