Description
In this video, I show you how to make this fresh complete dog food recipe made with lamb mince, lamb heart, lamb liver, kale, carrots, barley, sardines, blueberries and hemp seeds.
As a canine nutritionist and fresh feeder, I wanted to create a recipe that uses a variety of whole-food ingredients while remaining realistic for everyday dog owners. Along the way, I explain the role of each ingredient, including why lamb heart is one of my favourite nutrient-dense additions, how sardines can contribute omega-3 fatty acids, and why ingredients like hemp seeds can help provide important minerals that are sometimes overlooked in homemade diets.
This recipe provides approximately 1,000 kcal. If you’d like personalised feeding amounts or want to scale the recipe for batch cooking, the Drooli app calculates everything automatically based on your dog’s weight, age, and activity level.
Please note: this recipe is not nutritionally complete on its own.
To make it suitable for everyday feeding, we add Olli All-in-One Homemade Diet Supplement, which supplies calcium and essential vitamins and minerals that cannot be reliably provided by raw ingredients alone.
If you’re not using Olli, you would need to provide the missing nutrients yourself. Per 100 g of this recipe, that means adding approximately: 0.08 g calcium (to achieve the minimum calcium requirement), 0.28 mg iodine, 6.25 mg zinc, 5.83 IU vitamin E, 0.05 mg thiamine (vitamin B1) and 108 mg choline to meet minimum adult dog nutrient requirements.
Ingredients (to make ~1,000 kcal):
195 g – Raw lamb meat (15% fat)
95 g – Sardines in water
60 g – Lamb heart
25 g – Hard-boiled egg
25 g – Lamb liver
25 g – Kale
20 g – Barley (cooked)
20 g – Carrots
15 g – Olli All-in-One Homemade Diet Supplement
15 g – Blueberries
10 g – Hemp seeds
4 g – Antler powder
1 g – Peppermint
Directions:
1. Finely chop the kale and peppermint. Grate or finely dice the carrots.
2. Hard boil the egg and chop it into small pieces.
3. If using lamb chunks, cut the meat into bite-sized pieces.
4. Add the lamb meat, liver and heart to a pan on low-medium heat and gently cook until partially cooked through.
5. Add the kale and carrots and cook briefly until softened.
6. Stir through the cooked barley.
7. Turn off the heat completely.
8. Add the sardines, chopped egg, blueberries, hemp seeds, and peppermint.
9. Allow the food to cool before adding Olli and antler powder.
10. Mix thoroughly and serve.
