Removing Ditra is one thing… Removing the old thinset left behind is where the real work begins. If you’ve ever had to prep a floor after removing Schluter Ditra, you know how stubborn that thinset can be. Scraping it by hand is slow, exhausting, and usually leaves you with a surface that’s still far from ready for the next step. For jobs like this, I use the Hilti grinder paired with a dust extraction vacuum to quickly remove the old thinset and smooth the surface back down. It’s still a messy job, but having the right setup makes it a whole lot faster and keeps the dust under control. Floor prep isn’t the most exciting part of a renovation, but it’s one of the most important if you want the next installation to last.
