The Power of the Holy Name of Jesus

Father Gabe Cillo, MIC, reminds us that confidence in Christianity flows from one unshakable truth: Jesus Christ is God. When we truly believe this, even the smallest acts of faith take on eternal weight. Making the Sign of the Cross, blessing a meal, or speaking the name of Jesus in public is not a timid gesture — it is an act of witness to God Himself. Father Gabe emphasizes that when we invoke the name of Jesus, we are not calling upon a mere teacher or prophet. We are speaking the holy name of God. That is why demons tremble, and why the faithful can stand firm even in the face of ridicule or mockery. Sacred Scripture proclaims, “[A]t the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth” (Phil 2:10; NABRE). This truth gives us the courage to practice everyday discipleship. When we pray, God defends us. When we bless our food, God is the one who provides. When we speak the name of Jesus aloud, we proclaim the authority of the Creator before the world. The power is not in us — it is in Him. Father Gabe’s reflection calls us to reclaim holy boldness rooted in faith. The name of Jesus is not a swear word or something to be taken lightly; it is sacred, mighty, and victorious. To live love of God and neighbor unashamed of that name is to live in the truth of who Christ is.
