Description
During a press event in China, we were given the chance to drive the BYD Atto 2; a mid-sized hatchback which fits between the BYD Dolphin and Atto 3 in terms of size.
While not terribly radical from a design perspective, the interior is airy and spacious with a reassuring level of equipment included, such as a rotating central display and Vehicle to Load (V2L) functionality.
In China, this five-door hatch is also known as the BYD Yuan Up and is available in three variants:
Base model: 32 kWh battery, 215 km WLTP range, equivalent price of $23,200 NZD.
Mid-spec: 45 kWh battery, 285 km WLTP range, equivalent price of $26,350 NZD.
Top-spec: 45 kWh battery, 285 km WLTP range, equivalent price of $28,750 NZD.
And while those Chinese domestic market prices are intriguing, they don’t reflect what kiwis and Aussies would pay if these models were to land here. Once you add desired safety features, shipping costs, local compliance and more, NZ prices would likely end up quite a bit higher.
That being said, BYD have not yet confirmed whether this model will enter the New Zealand and Australian markets any time soon. The carmaker is presently guaging public opinion by having car reviewers drive the vehicles, so if you want it, make sure you say so in the comments.
