Description

Tech companies have three months to implement changes or face new laws, Sir Keir Starmer has told delegates at the London Tech Week forum. He said tech firms must introduce controls to "prevent children from sending and receiving sexually explicit images". Speaking on Monday, Starmer said that "when it comes to the safety of our children, standing by is not an option" as he vowed to act quickly. The government wants firms to activate built-in features on their devices or come up with technological solutions on smartphones and tablets to detect and block nude images from children. In addition to promising to reduce online harm, Starmer turned to young people and their need to be ready for the future workplace and how AI can help with this. The PM referenced the government target that 7.5 million workers will be AI trained by 2030, which was announced at last years event and confirmed that the latest figures show 1.7 million have already been trained. Skills Minister Baroness Jacqui Smith joins Susanna Reid and Ed Balls before Starmer's speech.
