Sweltering locals can be seen pushing through the packed doorway as screaming fills the air, with the doors damaged in the crush. The crowd continues pouring into the shop as customers scramble to secure cooling appliances before stocks run out. The rush came after Lidl launched a nationwide sale of around 200,000 air conditioners, fans and air coolers ahead of another spell of soaring temperatures, triggering chaotic scenes at several stores across the country. A shopper captured the “inhumane scene” at a Lidl supermarket in eastern France, where customers fought to get their hands on a dwindling supply of air-conditioning units as more heat was forecast for the nation. Kelian Michel captured this footage of shoppers fighting over an air conditioner in a Lidl in Besancon. Three people can be seen pulling on a unit and screaming. Michel said that people rushed toward the air conditioners as soon as the doors opened, with several dozen pushing and shoving each other in a violent manner.
