Description
Google DeepMind’s COO Lila Ibrahim says AI is finally ready to meaningfully transform how people learn — and how teachers teach.
Speaking to CNBC’s "The Tech Download" podcast, Ibrahim shared that DeepMind has spent the past few years treating learning as a “first‑class science problem,” ultimately merging its specialized LearnLM research directly into Google’s Gemini model.
The result, she says, is a general‑purpose AI system that can guide students through problems step‑by‑step — and help overwhelmed teachers reclaim time. In a recent pilot in Northern Ireland, educators reported saving an average of 10 hours a week.
Ibrahim also emphasized that bringing AI into classrooms will require deep collaboration with governments, educators, and academic experts as the world reconsiders what — and how — we should be teaching.
