Description

Tonight, we’re bringing a little piece of Japan into our home. 🇯🇵🍢 He’s on grill duty, I’m serving the food, and somehow our house feels like a cozy little yakitori restaurant. One bite in and suddenly everyone’s saying, “Arigato!” 😂❤️ Kain na! Yakitori Marinade (Good for Pork, Chicken, Steak & Shrimp) Ingredients * ½ cup soy sauce * ½ cup mirin * ¼ cup sake (or chicken broth) * 2 tbsp brown sugar * 1 tbsp honey * 3 cloves garlic, minced * 1 tbsp grated ginger * 1 tsp sesame oil (optional) * ½ tsp black pepper Marinating Time * Chicken thighs: 2–4 hours * Pork belly or pork shoulder: 2–6 hours * Steak (sirloin, ribeye, NY strip): 30 minutes–2 hours * Shrimp: 20–30 minutes (don’t marinate longer or they’ll get mushy) Grilling * Thread onto skewers or grill whole. * Grill over medium-high heat until cooked through. * While grilling, brush with extra yakitori sauce (don’t use the marinade the raw meat sat in). Homemade Yakitori Sauce (Tare) * ½ cup soy sauce * ½ cup mirin * ¼ cup sake * 2 tbsp brown sugar * 1 tbsp honey Simmer for 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened, then brush it on during the last few minutes of grilling for that glossy, caramelized finish. Serve with: * Steamed Japanese rice * Grilled mushrooms * Shishito peppers * Corn on the cob * Cabbage salad * Kimchi or Korean banchan if you’re mixing Japanese and Korean flavors Pro tip: Grill the chicken and pork first, then the steak, and cook the shrimp last since they only need about 2–3 minutes per side. That way, everything finishes around the same time and stays juicy. #YakitoriNight #JapaneseFood #HomeCooking #Foodie #familydinner #asmr
