Auto Trader is now under investigation by the CMA… and this one could get very awkward. In this video, I look at the claims that some 1-star reviews may not have appeared on Auto Trader’s platform, and may not have been counted towards dealer star ratings either. According to the CMA, the issue under investigation is whether consumers were denied a fully rounded picture of other customers’ experiences. This is part of a wider CMA crackdown on fake and misleading reviews, with several firms now under investigation. But let’s be clear: an investigation is not a guilty verdict. No final conclusions have been reached yet. So in this video I ask the obvious questions: Were bad reviews being filtered out? How much can buyers trust online dealer ratings? And if 1-star reviews were hidden, what does that do to confidence in the platform?
