Silent Waste Collection: Electric Trucks in Karlsruhe (Mercedes eEconic 300) I asked a driver of an electric waste collection truck in Karlsruhe: "Do you actually enjoy driving this?" His answer did surprise me. I was expecting an old school response, that "Diesel is king." But to my surprise, not only did he say he enjoys it, he told me it is quieter and has more power than the diesel version. The truck was a Daimler Truck AG eEconic 300 used by Stadt Karlsruhe. Considering their daily route of 100–200 km with plenty of stop and go, this truck is performing really well. After an 8 hour shift, it has plenty of time to charge. In this use case, even a standard 50 kW charger is enough to top up its 331 kWh battery overnight. Now, imagine this machine passing and stopping by your home. No noise. No pollution.
