Description
Watch part 1 here: https://youtu.be/Tb1c6p8zTls
Half of our entire homeland is used for agriculture. That’s unbelievably vast… and it means everything else, towns, cities, roads, lakes, mountains, wild lands wetlands are crammed into the other half.
A naturally managed grain field can harbour a wide range of species. But the vast majority of arable land in our homeland is no longer suitable as a habitat for a wide variety of animals and plants. Agriculture has become an industry thanks to misguided policies. Focused only on productivity, despite all the collateral damage. Yet the food produced in this way is not as cheap as it appears. If the damage to the environment, biodiversity, air and groundwater were included, prices would explode... The bill will be paid by future generations. At the end of the UN Decade on Biological Diversity, the decline in species and places for them to live, is nowhere as grave as on our farm lands.
Heathlands are another habitat that we have created… yet, it has fared much better. In fact, it is a welcoming and rich ecosystem, home for many species particularly in northern Germany.
The film is a true ode to nature and it leaves the viewer with enchanting and surprising views of our environment and with the realization that it is not too late to preserve and restore our nature. The Anthropocene, the age of man, does not have to end in catastrophe. Nor does it have to lead to an inexorable loss of habitats and species. It is up to us to recognize this and to preserve the nature of our homeland.
