Four judges in Virginia just threw out a statewide election. And that's exactly what two Georgia Supreme Court challengers are warning their state about right now.
Jen Jordan and Miracle Rankin are running against two sitting justices on Georgia's Supreme Court, and the response they keep getting is — stay in your lane. Don't talk about your beliefs. Judges aren't political. Their response is — look at Virginia.
[CLIP — Jen Jordan, ~9:50]: "I know exactly what the lane is. And the thing is, if people aren't willing and able to talk about their belief systems and their values, you may want to ask yourself, why is that? Why aren't people willing to answer questions, especially when they're standing for elections?"
Their argument is that the Georgia Constitution actually protects more rights than the US Constitution — and the current court keeps reading them like they're the same document.
[CLIP — Miracle Rankin, ~2:11]: "You can look at the U.S. Constitution as being like the floor… where Georgia is more of a ceiling."
If a judge is standing for election, "stay in your lane" is just a polite way of saying don't let voters know what you'll do with the job.
Tuesday. No runoff.
