People not reading books 'could undermine democracy', historian says | Politics Live

Historian and podcaster Dominic Sandbrook has warned of the impact people reading fewer works of fiction could have. “Weirdly, I think reading books is an important element of democratic plural society because it reminds you there's more to life than your own experience," he told BBC Politics Live's presenter Vicki Young. Sandbrook has just launched a new podcast called The Book Club, which he hopes will encourage people to read.
