But as budgets ballooned and studios chased efficiency, these mechanical marvels were slowly replaced by pixels, and the slow death of animatronics began. Today, there's still hope for the artistry of animatronics. Characters like Grogu prove that audiences resonate best when they can tell an object or character is real.
