Description
This primitive trap was inspired by a photo I saw of a native American pigeon cage. I simply added a trigger mechanism to close the trap door when an animal enters and takes the bait. This design of a cage can be used to keep or transport small live animals. It can also be used to store food and hang it safely from a tree branch.
Materials used for this project:
• About 10 giant cane (Arundo donax) stems that measured about five feet long (1.5 meters)
• 4 very flexible willow stems
• About 80 feet (25 meters) of yucca leaf rope (Hesperoyucca whipplei)
• About 20 feet (6 meters) of yucca fiber cordage
• A few dry stems of chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum) to make trigger mechanism
• 3 dry willow branches as stakes to support trigger mechanism
