In recognition of Australia’s 50 years of efforts to promote peace, stability and people-centered prosperity in Southeast Asia, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joined fellow Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member States in reaffirming the regional bloc’s commitment to the full and timely implementation of the ASEAN-Australia Plan of Action 2025-2029.
During the 5th ASEAN-Australia Summit, President Marcos Jr. described the Plan of Action as more than just a roadmap; it embodies the trust and shared resolve that underpin the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between both sides.
He commended Australia’s proactive engagement in ASEAN-led mechanisms and its steadfast support for maritime cooperation and conflict prevention as vital pillars of the Region’s shared stability.
President Marcos Jr. also welcomed the entry into force of the Second Protocol to Amend the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA), which is expected to expand market access, improve regulatory certainty, and create new opportunities in e-commerce, sustainable trade, and micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) empowerment.
The Chief Executive addressed various issues related to enhancing cooperation in the areas of economy, education, climate resilience, biodiversity, maritime zones and adherence to international law.
Likewise, President Marcos Jr. expressed confidence that ASEAN and Australia can continue to shape a future of lasting peace and inclusive prosperity that leaves no one behind.
