Venture philanthropy in public education: governance, policy and practice

Associate Professor Rowe's research focuses issues related to public education such as funding, segregation and choice. Her recent project studied venture philanthropy in public education and highlighted a significant issue of precarity, under-funding and lack of fair resourcing within the school system. Unfair funding of public schools leads to economic inequality but also social inequality. This form of injustice creates hurdles, exclusions and disadvantages for certain groups of people and contributes to a lack of social mobility for particular groups of young people. This does not have to be the case, there are many steps we could take to improve the funding of our public school system.
