Japan Pakistan Relations, Technology, and the Road Ahead Japan’s journey from the devastation of World War II to becoming a global economic and technological leader remains a powerful example of people-driven development. The relationship between Japan and Pakistan is rooted not only in government ties but also in long-standing people to people connections, visible in industry, culture, and everyday life. Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Akamatsu Shuichi, highlights that both countries have enjoyed friendly relations for decades, with Japanese companies operating in Pakistan for over 50 years. Today, around 80 Japanese firms are active in the country, particularly in the automobile and manufacturing sectors. Addressing demographic contrasts, he points to Japan’s ageing population and Pakistan’s youthful workforce as an opportunity for deeper cooperation, including language training, skills development, and labour mobility. He adds that multilateral cooperation for shared prosperity is the way forward.
