Description
In Blue Beetle (2023), the Scarab is introduced as a terrifying alien weapon capable of surviving re entry from space, creating deadly weapons instantly, and even slicing vehicles in half like paper. But during the final battle against Ignacio Carapax, played by Raoul Max Trujillo, the tone suddenly changes.
The moment Carapax physically overpowers Jaime Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña, the Scarab’s reaction feels like a panicking anime side character desperately flailing around trying to escape.
That contrast is what makes the scene unintentionally funny. Earlier in the movie, the suit looks unstoppable against normal soldiers and innocent people, but when a real equal-level threat appears, the Scarab suddenly loses all intimidation and starts throwing tiny desperate attacks with its extra arms.
Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle had some genuinely cool suit moments and visual effects, but scenes like this made the “ultimate alien weapon” feel weirdly adorable instead of terrifying.
