Carney’s AI Strategy: A Blueprint for Canada’s Digital Future?

Prime Minister Mark Carney has unveiled his government’s long-awaited strategy for artificial intelligence, outlining a five-year plan aimed at protecting Canadians’ data and privacy, creating 250,000 jobs, and strengthening Canada’s sovereignty in the digital age. The strategy includes a commitment to provide free AI literacy training for all Canadians, build a world-leading public supercomputer accessible to Canadian researchers and businesses, and develop sovereign data centres capable of supporting advanced AI systems. The government argues these investments are essential for a country that ranks among the world’s leaders in AI research but continues to lag behind many of its peers in AI adoption, literacy, and public trust.
