16 ‘almost feral’ children freed from years of confinement in rural Ohio

►16 children who were discovered living in “wretched conditions" in the US state of Ohio have been rescued by police. Officials say the children, all from the same family, were kept in a 12-by-12-foot room with with human waste for much of the past four years. Authorities described the scene as "almost beyond comprehension" and "pure evil," noting the children were barely able to communicate, and an 18-year-old developmentally disabled individual could not write her name. Seven children were transported to hospitals, with two flown by helicopter and one in a critical condition. The children’s parents and two grandparents were each charged with 16 counts of second-degree felony child endangerment because it involves “serious physical harm”, said Vinton County Prosecuting Attorney William Archer.
