5-sec European Top Alcohol & Nitro Injected, A/Fuel Dragsters battling at Hockenheimring!

After Top Fuelers, the FIA Top Methanol class includes the second fastest and quickest cars of the European drag racing scene. The class is reserved for both supercharged methanol-burning (Top Alcohol) and injected nitromethane (A/Fuel or Nitro Injected) dragsters. These machines cover the full quarter mile in the low 5s and reach exit speeds above the 400 km/h (250 mph) mark. Top Alcohol dragsters are similar to their Top Fuel counterparts, though they run on methanol and produce significantly less power. In this video there are also two Funny Cars running with similar specifications, except that they feature a shorter wheelbase. Supercharged, methanol-burning cars have three forward speeds and have the characteristic of revving up before launching. On the other hand, Nitro Injected cars can't mount a supercharger, making them the fastest and quickest naturally-aspirated vehicles on the planet. They generally run on 95% nitro, 5% alcohol (maximum nitromethane percentage cannot exceed 97% by regulation) and they don't use a transmission, similar to Top Fuelers, which forces them to accelerate at the exact moment of launch. Burning nitromethane, their sound is all adorned with the low, earth-shaking frequencies typical of the Top Fuel class but in a slightly lighter form. This sound, impossible to be reproduced by any playback device, is made up of actual shockwaves produced by some unburned nitromethane which ignites passing through the hot exhaust pipes. In this video only two of them are A/Fuelers (the orange NGK and the white/red Bilsport dragster) and they can be recognized by the much higher and larger spoiler than the Top Alcohol rivals plus by the tall, single-inlet intake manifold.
