The Yamuna River covered in dense layers of white chemical foam near the Okhla Barrage area in New Delhi. The froth is created by high concentrations of phosphates, industrial chemicals, untreated domestic sewage, and detergent waste discharged into the river system. A Delhi Metro train and elevated road bridges pass above the polluted river corridor, creating a striking visual contrast between modern infrastructure and environmental decline. Plastic waste, stagnant water, and polluted riverbanks underline the worsening ecological condition of the Yamuna in India’s capital region. The phenomenon becomes especially visible during colder months and around major religious festivals such as Chhath Puja, when thousands of devotees gather near the river despite hazardous pollution levels and toxic water conditions.
