The battle for Siverskodonetsk and its twin city, Lysychansk, took place from late April 2022 to July 2022. Although the cities are not the most strategically important in the region, the battle for the city, however, was of strategic significance because it happened right after the withdrawal of Russian forces from the Kyiv region. Their new declared goal at this point in time: to establish control over Donbas and Southern Ukraine. And one of the first significant battles for this goal: Siverskodonetsk.
