Their exhausted bodies are finally free from the swarms of fleas that tormented them. It's a miracle these babies survived, but they aren't in the clear yet—and they need your help to keep fighting. Medical case after medical case has slammed our rescue, and with kitten season in full swing, our rescue's funds are spread thin. If we're going to save these babies and countless others like them, we're going to need your help! Our incredible foster volunteer Stef thought she was picking up one kitten someone had advertised in a social media post. Instead, she arrived at a heartbreaking scene. There was an entire colony of unfixed cats struggling to survive in Port Richey. Among them were dozens of sick kittens. These four kittens were the most vulnerable. Stef found them huddled together for comfort as fleas swarmed their coats. They could hardly see as their eyes crusted shut with infection. Stef knew that these babies wouldn't make it without immediate medical intervention. When kittens this young develop eye infections and severe flea infestations, their immune systems can become dangerously overwhelmed in the blink of an eye. Without proper treatment, these conditions can lead to permanent damage or worse. Eye infections can cause blindness if left untreated, while heavy flea loads can trigger life-threatening anemia. There wasn't a moment to lose. Stef immediately brought these babies into our care, where they received healing baths to remove the fleas and gentle cleaning to clear the discharge from their infected eyes. They're now receiving antibiotics and around-the-clock monitoring in our quarantine area. We're also working to trap their mother and address the larger colony situation to prevent more suffering. It's just a matter of grappling with limited resources. As a small nonprofit, Rags to Riches Animal Rescue depends entirely on our volunteers and our donor base to save lives. Four kittens with medical issues can drain our funds in an instant, especially when we're already juggling numerous medical cases. With kitten season bringing wave after wave of vulnerable babies to our doorstep, we must be prepared for more cases like these. We're a dedicated, hardworking team, but we can't do this alone.
