This clip was taken early in the morning around 13/14th August and finds Marcel perched on the backrest part of a miniature cast iron with wood slat bench seat which sits under a very big Brazilian Pepper tree with this being the area of choice for sometime now albeit with the majority of earlier visits spent underneath the bench seat rather than upon it.At this stage Marcel was still quite open to entering into a conversation as on other occasions & once again,as he moves along the bench,he begins to chatter.Unfortunately as I am not fluent in gibberish I have absolutely no idea at all what is being said to me even though I attempt to guess what Marcel is saying from his response it would appear that he has more success at recognizing that my translation of his behavior is incorrect than I do in the reverse situation.Once again he has the look of a black hen & after continually getting it wrong he soon seems to react after I make a comment along these lines and Marcel decides that perhaps I need a more " hands on " approach,quickly he jumps from his place on the bench seat to my shoulder where he proceeds to comb through my hair with his beak,unfortunately for him there was nothing there worth looking for and he was left empty beaked,so to speak Marcel was found on the ground in the last week of july after a very stormy night,after ringing a few places i was instructed to take him to specific vet surgery where i was advised that he was a raven,healthy,unlikely to have fallen to ground & he was a fledgling & " should be returned to where he was found his parents will look after him ". unfortunately this was not the case and it was 4/5 days before the parents came near him,he also had a talon missing from a rear toe that became quite swollen & infected in the weeks that followed needing treatment,it was paw paw ointment that cleared it up after having no success with other conventional treatments.Although the only sure fire way to accurately identify the gender of a raven is by blood/dna test Marcel has been declared a male for a number of reasons with the primary one coming from my 15 yr old daughter who has declared that " that bird has to be a male.because its just so annoying " fortunately she avoids Marcel otherwise he might think his name is/was " stupid bird " admittedly the poor kid was swooped by a maggie as a five year old & it appears that it has left her quite scarred.
