Is Walkinshaw's Anti-Raptor Amarok W600 The Ute World's King of the Road?

Volkswagen Australia’s new Amarok W600 has Ford Ranger Raptor, BYD Shark 6 and Toyota Hilux GR Sport firmly in its crosshairs. But the key difference is that the Australian-developed, Walkinshaw-tuned dual-cab is out to be King Of The Road rather than an off-roading hero. Chasing Cars editor at large Nathan Ponchard gets a close look at its production styling and hits the racetrack to see whether this “handing biased” range-topper of the Amarok lineup is the sort of ute worth lusting over. Based on the Amarok Style, the W600 features bolder styling, a wider track and neat tricks such as tractible sideshirts, but the key lure is what the chassis package brings to table…without ruining its worktruck potential. Sounds tougher, too, even if the 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre turbodiesel heartbeat is essentially carryover. It won’t be cheap, with pricing expected to start at around the $90K-$100K mark.
