Seattle mayor explains decision to turn on CCTV cameras for World Cup: 'Credible threat'

Mayor Katie Wilson spoke to the media for the first time in days after she chose to turn on the controversial CCTV cameras in and around Pioneer Square and SODO for the duration of the FIFA World Cup. Following an open house event for a new shelter in Interbay, the mayor fielded questions from reporters, where KOMO News and others asked about her decision, which marked a stark contrast from her long-held position on the cameras. There are 22 CCTV cameras installed around the "Stadium District," adding to the already-established 60-plus unit public and private camera network within the city's Real Time Crime Center (RTCC).
