'Total death guaranteed': Trump urges Iranian diplomats to seek asylum during Iran war

The House on Thursday voted to block a war powers resolution aimed at stopping President Donald Trump’s military strikes on Iran. Lawmakers rejected the measure 212-219, marking the second failed effort in two days after the Senate defeated a similar resolution largely along party lines. The vote offered a clear snapshot of where members stand on the U.S.-Israel military operation and on Trump’s decision to move forward without a formal declaration of war from Congress, which holds constitutional authority to declare war. The debate has drawn comparisons to the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, with many lawmakers who served in the military after Sept. 11 weighing in from the House floor. Republican Rep. Brian Mast of Florida, who is the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, publicly thanked Trump for taking action against Iran, saying the president is using his own constitutional authority to defend the U.S. against the “imminent threat” the country posed. Trump said he should have a role in choosing Iran’s next supreme leader. He also said he rates the American performance in the ongoing Iran war as a 15 out of 10. Trump credited what he called the strength of the U.S. military and defended the administration’s decision to take action, arguing that Iran had posed a threat for nearly half a century. “For 47 years, they’ve been killing our people and killing people from all over the world,” Trump said, referring to Iran’s government. "And I think we have great support.
