This documentary is a well-researched documentation. It extensively talks about his paintings and showcases his work of art brilliantly. You get to know facts like Tagore hadn’t taken up the paint brush until he was 70 years of age and that he made close to 2,000 paintings worth talking about. In his own words his inspiration had always been his nephew Abanindranath Tagore — “The modern art movement, following the line of Oriental tradition, was started by my nephew Abanindranath. I watched his activities with an envious mood of self-diffidence, being thoroughly convinced that my fate had refused me passport across the strict boundaries of letters.” His calligraphy and giving shape to his handwritten scripts is unique in itself and this was observed in his earlier manuscripts like Kheya and Shishu, but it took a definite form in Purabi. About this particular style Rabindranath himself had said — “I try to make my corrections dance, connect them in a rhythmic relationship and transform accumulation into adornment.” This docufeature, apart from upholding his art, also interludes it with some appropriate songs, of course, borrowed from him. The songs are sung by some contemporary exponents of Rabindrasangeet like Indrani Sen, Sraboni Sen along with Apratim Sen. This docufeature is directed by Sukanta Roy. The narration is in English.
