The Journey Back Begins 🌄 | Daylight Ride from Passu to Gulmit | Yamaha R1 Adventure Series

This is the 17th Part our our epic adventure on my Yamaha R1. In the previous episode, we achieved the biggest milestone of our entire journey — standing at the legendary Khunjerab Top Pass, the highest paved international border in the world. After an unforgettable day surrounded by snow, mountains, and fellow travelers, we returned safely to our hotel in Passu Valley. In this episode, the journey turns inward — the ride back to Gilgit begins. We start our return from the Ambassador Hotel, Passu Valley, but this time the experience is completely different. Riding during daylight allowed us to finally witness what the dark, icy night had hidden from us earlier — vast valleys, winding rivers, dramatic cliffs, and layers of mountains stretching endlessly into the horizon. The roads we once feared now reveal their beauty. Sunlight paints the valleys in shades of gold and green, glaciers shimmer in the distance, and the Karakoram Highway unfolds like a living postcard. This ride was calmer, more reflective — a moment to absorb everything we had accomplished so far on the Yamaha R1 and Power Sultan 250cc. Our first planned stop on this return leg is the Gulmit Total Petrol Station, where both riders and machines will rest, refuel, and prepare for the next stretch toward Gilgit. But that story continues in the next episode. 👉 Stay tuned — the adventure isn’t over yet. 📍 Geo Location, Background & Place Details Passu Valley (Passu Village) 📍 Geo Location: 36.4516° N, 74.8917° E Passu Valley lies in Upper Hunza, along the Karakoram Highway, and is famous for the dramatic Passu Cones (also called the Cathedrals of the North). The valley is surrounded by glaciers such as the Batura Glacier and runs parallel to the Hunza River. Historically, Passu was a resting point on ancient Silk Route paths and today serves as a key stop for travelers heading toward or returning from Khunjerab Pass. Ambassador Hotel, Passu Valley Located directly on the Karakoram Highway, Ambassador Hotel is a trusted stop for travelers and adventurers. Known for its reliable electricity, hot water, and warm hospitality, it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. For riders and long-distance travelers, it acts as a crucial comfort zone before tackling extreme high-altitude routes. Karakoram Highway (KKH) The return journey follows the legendary Karakoram Highway, often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Built jointly by Pakistan and China, the highway traces ancient trade routes of the Silk Road and cuts through some of the most dramatic terrain on Earth. Daylight reveals the true scale of this engineering marvel — deep valleys, river crossings, and towering rock faces shaped by tectonic forces and glaciers. Gulmit (Gojal Valley) 📍 Geo Location: 36.3845° N, 74.8572° E Gulmit is a historic town in the Gojal (Upper Hunza) Valley, located between Passu and Karimabad. It has long served as a cultural and logistical center for the region. Today, it is an important stop for travelers due to fuel stations, shops, and rest points along the KKH. Gulmit Total Petrol Station This fuel station is a critical lifeline for vehicles traveling in Upper Hunza. For motorcyclists, it’s not just about refueling — it’s a moment to rest, hydrate, inspect machines, and mentally prepare for the long ride ahead.
