Back in December last year 1300KOALAZ rescued a koala hit by a car, she was named Noelle. Luckily she escaped with barely a scratch, but, whilst under sedation she was found to be carrying a tiny pinky in her pouch. After just a few days to get over the drama she was released back to the wild. Earlier this week another rescue group were called to a hit by car and as she had our tag in her ear they called us to let us know. When we checked our records we found it was Noelle. She does have some injuries but will stay in care at Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Centre while she is receiving intensive treatment but will go into care with her new rescuer once she is cleared to be rehabbed. Now the exciting thing is that Noelle was not alone she had a backriding joey with her. The tiny pinky has grown into a healthy 2.2kg joey. For us this is very excitig as it is rare to see a joey that you last saw as a pinky. If they do come back in it would probably be as an adult and we would not be able to make that connection. Here they are with Yindi, as the joey is called, the one curled up having a snooze while mum Noelle has been having treatment. This is a great example of why it is so important to call in a sick, injured, orphaned or distressed koala, not one but two lives saved not once but twice.
