On the morning of January 21st, I decided to hop out and do some railfanning before some rain moved in, as it appeared that the HMCR was going to do a run that morning. When I got out to downtown Huntsville, they hadn't left yet, so I decided to see if NS had anything coming, and sure enough, there was something approaching Huntsville from the east. As such, I decided to set-up at this crossing and see what was coming. Not too long after I got here, I was able to catch my first, and best, train of the day: a rather short NS 289 with a Dash-9 leading an ES44DC and an ET44AC for power, all running elephant-style! Interestingly, the Dash-9 leading this train is one of the highest-numbered locomotives on NS's roster, only being eight locomotives away from the highest-numbered one (NS 9978), which I hope to see leading some day.
As always, you can hear the defect detector next to this crossing reading-out after the train has passed.
Thankfully, nothing has changed to this crossing since I last recorded it back in December. I was able to confirm that the "new" gate mast and gate mech on the closer signal here were reused from the Sullivan Street crossing in downtown Madison, as the mast still retains its original DOT tag stuck on it.
