Japanese Serow Calf Curiously Sniffs at Stinky Ginkgo Seeds Feeder Box

A young-of-the-year Japanese serow (Capricornis crispus, family Bovidae) with a pair of tiny horns came along an animal trail on the mountainside. After sniffing around, the calf was apparently interested in the feeder box which was filled with many stinky seeds of ginkgo tree (aka maidenhair tree; Ginkgo biloba, family Ginkgoaceae). As you may know, the ginkgo fruits have a notoriously foul smell from butyric acid. Captured with my old trailcam in the cloudy late-morning (around 10:25 AM) of early-December 2024 in Japan.
