Moth feeding video!
This is safe for the moths
The deaths head hawk moth won’t always feed in its own! If you follow my Chanel you will already know this but those that don’t I’ll try explain
This moth isn’t like other moths! They squeak and feed from beehives in the wild!
When I hand raise them they’ll often refuse to eat Probally because it’s hard for them to recognize the little dish of honey as a food source. This means they’ll just refuse to feed. I use a toothpick to unravel the moths proboscis (mouth) and I guide it to the food. It can take a few seconds for the moth to taste the honey but as soon as they do they’ll feed!
The moths will often squeak for a number of different reasons, on the first feed the moth is unsure what’s happening so it squeaks!
They do this in the wild and it’s said that they will use the squeak to also confuse the bees while they feed on the honey 🍯
Once the moths learns im safe and not going to harm them. They stop squeaking and feeding becomes much easier
I use fresh honey from lical bee keeps and sometimes makuna honey i mix this at a 50/50 ratio usually
